Davidoff is a Swiss cigar house whose story begins with a family tobacco shop in Geneva. At our Gastown shop we carry Davidoff from its mildest coronas to its fuller Nicaraguan and Dominican blends. This guide explains how the lines differ so you can pick the right one. You can also see everything we stock on our Davidoff cigars in Vancouver page.
A short history
The Davidoff family opened a tobacco shop in Geneva in 1911, and the first Davidoff cigars appeared in 1968, made in Cuba. Since 1991 Davidoff cigars have been rolled in the Dominican Republic. The brand belongs to Oettinger Davidoff, based in Basel, Switzerland.
The Davidoff lines on our shelves
- Signature and Grand Cru (mild): smooth, lighter cigars with Ecuadorian Connecticut wrappers, a pale leaf known for a gentle, creamy taste. Try the Signature 2000 or Grand Cru No. 2, both coronas, or the slim Signature No. 2.
- Winston Churchill (mild to medium): the Winston Churchill Robusto is a step up in flavour while staying easygoing.
- Aniversario (medium): the Aniversario Special R is a robusto with more depth.
- Maduro (medium): the Maduro Robusto and Maduro Toro use a maduro wrapper, a leaf fermented longer for a darker colour and a sweeter, richer taste.
- Nicaragua and Yamasa (medium to full): the Nicaragua Robusto and Yamasa Robusto are the fullest Davidoffs we carry.
Where to start
If you are new to cigars, start with a Signature or Grand Cru corona. If you already enjoy medium cigars, the Winston Churchill Robusto or Aniversario Special R are a good next step. For more intensity, go to the Nicaragua or Yamasa robustos. Ring gauge is a cigar’s diameter measured in 64ths of an inch, so a 50 ring gauge cigar is 50/64 of an inch across.
Keeping them fresh
Store your cigars at 65 to 70% relative humidity and around 18 to 21°C, away from sunlight. Our storage guide explains how, and we carry humidors in store.
