Day to day cigar maintenance, unlike cigar aging, is much easier and less time consuming. Most seasoned cigar smokers will have two humidors: an aging humidor and a smoking humidor. The process of the aging humidor is covered in our Aging Your Cigar guide. The smoking humidor is typically kept at a humidity between 65 and 70% and kept in a fairly cool environment.
One of the biggest mistakes people tend to make when they don’t own a humidor is to place cigars within the refrigerator, not realizing that the fridge does the opposite and removes humidity from within the cigar.

Choosing Your Humidifier Solution
The suggested solutions that can be used for the humidifier are either distilled water (not filtered water) or a special care solution.
Distilled Water is more useful for the seasoned connoisseur. It takes a lot more precision and needs to be constantly attended to. Humidifiers meant for 50 cigars in a humidor will need to be refilled every 3โ4 days depending on the environment. If you are using distilled water in your humidor you will need to check it on a daily basis.

Humidor Care Solution is a propylene glycol-based solution that self-regulates the environment to a constant 68โ70% humidity. The benefit is that even if a large humidification device is placed within a small humidor with a small number of cigars, it will self-sustain the environment at the right humidity without drenching your cigars.
This system is highly advantageous for people who cannot attend to their humidor on a daily basis. Many people will use a very large humidifier in a fairly small-sized humidor to prolong the time period between refills.

Finding the Right Routine
When it comes to day to day care, it usually comes down to a person’s schedule and how often they can attend to the humidor. Based on your needs, choose the right humidification system for your cigars โ your palate will thank you for it.
