Arturo Fuente is one of the oldest family names in premium cigars, and at our Gastown shop we carry a range of its Dominican cigars, from mild everyday smokes to fuller robustos. See the full list on our Arturo Fuente cigars in Vancouver page.
Four generations of the Fuente family
Arturo Fuente began rolling cigars in West Tampa, Florida, in 1912, and the business has passed through four generations of the family. Since 1980 the cigars have been made in Santiago, Dominican Republic. The company is known for lines such as Hemingway, Don Carlos and Añejo, and its Don Carlos Eye of the Shark was Cigar Aficionado’s Cigar of the Year in 2017.
The Fuente family also makes Fuente Fuente OpusX, released in 1995 with wrapper grown on their Chateau de la Fuente farm. Fuente describes it as the first successful cigar made entirely with Dominican tobacco. We carry S.T. Dupont accessories made for OpusX; for OpusX cigars, call the shop to ask about current stock.
The Fuente cigars we carry
- Curly Head Deluxe (mild to mild-medium): the Curly Head Deluxe Natural and Curly Head Deluxe Maduro are long, slim lonsdales and an easy introduction to the brand.
- Chateau Fuente (medium): the Chateau Fuente Natural is a robusto with a Connecticut wrapper.
- Hemingway (medium): the Hemingway Signature and Short Story are perfectos, a shape that tapers at both ends, wrapped in Cameroon leaf.
- Magnum R (medium to full): the Magnum R Rosado 54 is the fullest Fuente on our list.
Where to start
Begin with a Curly Head Deluxe if you prefer mild cigars, or a Hemingway if you want something more complex in a smaller format. The Magnum R suits smokers who already enjoy fuller cigars. Ring gauge is a cigar’s diameter measured in 64ths of an inch, so a 50 ring gauge cigar is 50/64 of an inch across.
Keeping them fresh
Store your cigars at 65 to 70% relative humidity and around 18 to 21°C, away from sunlight. Our storage guide explains how, and we carry humidors in store.
