Oliva makes its cigars in Nicaragua, and its range runs from mild to full. At our Gastown shop we carry cigars from five Oliva lines. See them all on our Oliva cigars in Vancouver page.
A family of tobacco growers
The Oliva family has grown tobacco since 1886, starting in Cuba. Oliva Cigar Co. was established in 1995, and its cigars are made in Estelí, Nicaragua. The Serie V Melanio Figurado was Cigar Aficionado’s Cigar of the Year in 2014.
The Oliva lines we carry
- Serie G (mild): the Serie G Robusto and Serie G Toro are the gentlest Olivas on our list.
- Nub (mild-medium to medium): Nub cigars are short and thick, designed to deliver a full smoke in a compact size. We carry the Nub Connecticut, Nub Cameroon and Nub Maduro.
- Serie O (medium to medium-full): the Serie O Robusto and Serie O Maduro Robusto.
- Serie V (full): the Serie V 6×60 is a large gordo, a cigar with a ring gauge of 60.
- Serie V Melanio (full): the Serie V Melanio Figurado and Melanio Figurado Maduro. A figurado is any cigar that is not a straight cylinder.
Where to start
Serie G is the easiest entry point. If you like medium cigars, try a Nub or the Serie O Robusto. Serie V and Serie V Melanio are for smokers who enjoy full-strength cigars. Ring gauge is a cigar’s diameter measured in 64ths of an inch, so a 50 ring gauge cigar is 50/64 of an inch across.
Keeping them fresh
Store your cigars at 65 to 70% relative humidity and around 18 to 21°C, away from sunlight. Our storage guide explains how, and we carry humidors in store.
